Academic Partnerships

Caledonian College of Engineering has established a number of agreements and memorandums of understanding with various educational and industrial organisations in Oman and throughout the world.

Academic Collaboration with Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU) - UK

Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU), which has a tradition of quality education, research, consultancy and training that dates back to 1875, collaborates with Caledonian College of Engineering (CCE) and is the main awarding and accrediting body of both Undergraduate and Postgraduate programmes at CCE since 1996.

GCU's vast IT, engineering and construction experience is housed within the School of Engineering and Built Environment. Positioned as a world-class research institution, affirmed by the 2014 Research Excellence Framework (UK) results, GCU’s high quality team are experts in their field; well-connected frontrunners in areas such as IT security, environmental science, telecommunications, surveying and mechanical and electrical engineering. The School has a strong track record of working partnerships with professional bodies, developing globally recognised programmes ensuring an industry standard of learning, which is relevant to the changing needs of the labour market keeping students up-to-date with the latest industry advancements and best practice.

GCU recently appointed global experts, Professors Ghassan Aoud and Professor Mohammed Dulaimi as visiting professors to enhance the university’s activities in the built environment. Exposed to global expertise and with opportunities to participate in international study trips and projects, students at GCU enjoy an international experience. GCU was rated 2nd in the UK for International Student Satisfaction (ISB 2013). 95% of our graduates went into employment or further study six months after graduating in 2014. The School of Engineering and Built Environment offers a wide range of Postgraduate Taught or Research programmes aligned with the undergraduate programmes delivered at CCE. They are designed to build-on and enhance the knowledge gained at undergraduate level. Furthermore graduates of CCE/GCU are entitled to an Alumni discount of 20% off taught and research postgraduate courses delivered at GCU, details are on Postgraduate courses available on the GCU website.

Academic Collaboration with VIT University – India

VIT University is one of the best and most renowned private co-educational universities in India today. It is rated amongst the top 10 premier institutions of India. Its sprawling green campus accommodates more than 24,000 students from India and more than 50 countries and the University itself has strong collaborations with many foreign universities.

VIT University comprises of six schools offering 16 undergraduate programmes and 29 postgraduate programmes, with research programmes leading to MPhil and PhD degrees. Additionally, VIT University has been accredited by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), United Kingdom and the Energy Institute, United Kingdom and all VIT University programmes are accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (All India Council of Technical Education). It is the first University in India to undergo the coveted ABET accreditation process for two of its programmes. VIT University has been identified as a Centre of Excellence in the areas of automotive electronics, disaster mitigation and management, renewable energy projects, rapid prototyping and manufacturing facilities and the Centre of Bio Separation Technology. VIT University has MoUs with various international institutions, providing a basis for student and faculty exchange and joint research facilities. Through CCE's collaboration with VIT University, it is able to offer the academic programmes in MSc in Process Engineering and BSc in Chemical Engineering degree programmes, and benefits from a staff exchange programme and research collaboration.

Academic collaboration with University of South Carolina, USA
Caledonian College of Engineering (CCE) has entered into academic collaboration with University of South Carolina (USC), USA, one of the oldest and most comprehensive public institutions of higher education in the USA. This collaboration is mainly focused at bringing ABET compliant engineering programmes in both core specialisations and in emerging areas.

The University of South Carolina is one of the oldest and most comprehensive public institutions of higher education in the US, with its main campus in the state capital, Columbia. Founded in 1801, USC offers more than 350 programs of study, leading to bachelors, masters, and doctoral degrees, and educates more than 30,000 students on a 360-acre site. USC is ranked first for its undergraduate and graduate International Business programs in the nation for over a decade and the Carnegie Foundation has placed USC among the top public research universities in the country for very high research activity. Moreover, USC has been ranked within the top 25 public universities delivering work-ready graduates and a top producer of US Fulbright Students. The Columbia campus is divided into 15 different schools and colleges, each reflecting different areas of research and educational expertise besides offering a range of degrees and qualifications in business, education, science, engineering, hospitality, communications, social work, arts, health and science. The University also runs an innovation district called Innovista, looking to commercialize research in key areas of strength such as biomedicine, nanotechnology, environmental science and alternative fuels.

As the first step of this academic partnership, CCE has started BEng Chemical Engineering Programme in February 2017 followed by MSc Process Engineering in September 2017. A formal signing of academic collaboration was carried out between the two institutions on 4th May 2017, and this will facilitate introducing additional undergraduate and masters programmes in various emerging specialisations in the coming years. Besides running academic programmes, this partnership also facilitates building research capacity of the college, pedagogical skills of staff, and also staff and student exchanges, thus bringing new dimensions to learning and teaching at CCE.

CCE aspires for ABET accreditation of its programmes once the first batch of students graduates from the programmes. ABET accreditation will be a value addition, which will provide better career opportunities for students.

Memorandum of Understanding with the National Institute of Technology Durgapur (NITD)

The National Institute of Technology, Durgapur was established in 1960 as one of eight colleges aimed to function as a pace setter for engineering education in India and to foster national integration. It is a fully-funded premier Technological Institution of the Government of India and is administered by an autonomous Board of Governors. The Institute is a University which awards BTech, MCA., MSc, MBA, MTech and PhD degrees to students after their successful completion of the specified courses. The Institute imparts education in the disciplines of Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, Information Technology, Biotechnology, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Environmental Science, Materials Science and Management Studies. Academic partnership with NITD includes areas of cooperation in research and development, faculty exchange and professional and staff development programmes etc.

International Research Centre for Renewable Energy (IFEED)-Germany

The International Research Centre for Renewable Energy (IFEED), based in Germany, was founded in 1999 and promotes the use of renewable energy such as solar, wind and biomass. It also deals with the configuration and the implementation of new technologies in this field. With the main functions of IFEED being research, application as well as consulting and education, IFEED participates in many research studies including renewable energy resources, demand study of electricity and water demand and electricity networks. The initial focus of cooperation between IFEED and the College will be in research and development, with the faculty and students from the Sultanate of Oman having the opportunity to work together with different national and international bodies. CCE envisages vast benefits from the areas of cooperation with IFEED, with a major emphasis on promoting the development of a regional research capacity. In addition, this cooperation will facilitate and coordinate joint activities in research studies, emerging technologies, utilising and introducing technology and exchange of researchers. Further focus is given to cooperation and exchange of expertise in design development, delivery of educational and short courses and training programmes to meet the needs of human resource development in the Sultanate of Oman and the region.

The Public Establishment for Industrial Estates (PEIE)-Sultanate of Oman

The Public Establishment for Industrial Estates (PEIE) was established by a Royal Decree in 1993 and is now managed by Mr Hilal Al Ahasani, CEO and a Board of Directors chaired by HE Maqbool bin Ali Sultan, Oman’s Minister of Commerce and Industry. Since 1993, PEIE has been responsible for developing and managing prime industrial land in eight locations in Rusayl, Raysut, Sohar, Nizwa, Buraimi, Sur, Al Mazunah Free zone and Knowledge Oasis Muscat. The College has a Memorandum of Understanding with PEIE which was established to facilitate technology incubation. The agreement covers areas such as partner incubation, which facilitates product design and development, primarily in engineering and technological areas. It also encompasses corporate training, consultancy services and short courses along with seminars, workshops and conferences.

In partnership with Institut National de la Recherche Agronomique, Laboratoire de Biotechnologie de l’Environnement (INRA-LBE), France

The National Institute of Agronomic Research in France (INRA) and Caledonian College of Engineering in Oman (CCE) has signed an agreement for cooperation between the two institutions on the 4th June at CCE in Muscat.

The INRA Laboratory of Environmental Biotechnology (INRA-LBE) in France ranks as the number one agricultural institute in Europe and number two in the world. It carries out mission-oriented research into high-quality and health-giving foods, competitive and sustainable agriculture and a clean environment. The INRA-LBE Laboratory of Environmental Biotechnology, a research lab under INRA, carries out research and development in the biological treatment of liquid effluent and solid residue from domestic, agricultural and agro-industrial waste.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two institutions covers research and development, academic exchange, exchange of research information, publication and training of key staff. The cooperation between CCE and INRA LBE, supported by French Embassy in Oman, can benefit the people of Oman through research and the development of technology”.

Through this collaboration, CCE has taken a leap forward in promoting mission-oriented research in waste treatment and waste management in which it is already engaged through many ongoing research projects. CCE is organised an international workshop on waste to energy IWWE 2012, on 12-13 March 2012.


ETOPS Aviation Services (ETOPS), an MWC company, and Caledonian College of Engineering (CCE) has entered into co-operation through a formal memorandum of understanding (MoU) to collaborate for the placement, training and internships in the field of Simulator Maintenance and to assess further schemes of cooperation.

This strategic collaboration with ETOPS will enable the College to expand education and training course offering to the aviation sector with a specific focus on maintenance.

ETOPS delivers integrated products and services to support civil and military customers, including airlines, training organizations and aircraft manufacturers worldwide. Headquartered in Toulouse in the French aerospace valley, the ETOPS team brings in substantial aviation experience, centralizes competences in airline operations, staffing and training and development of training centres. ETOPS produces high quality industry leading solutions tailored to meet customer needs, on time and in compliance with local regulations. With its TRTO and Part 147 approval certificates (EASA regulation), ETOPS is a partner of choice for aircrew provisioning and training as well as simulator maintenance services.

Cooperation with University Nevada Las Vegas

The University of Nevada, Las Vegas, USA and CCE have signed an MoU for cooperation between two institutions.

UNLV is a comprehensive research university of approximately 28,000 students and 2,900 faculty and staff. The university has internationally recognized programs in hotel administration and creative writing; professional degrees in law, architecture, and dental medicine; and leading programs in fine arts, sciences, engineering and education. UNLV is located on a 332-acre main campus and two satellite campuses in dynamic Southern Nevada..

There are ongoing interactions between two institutions covering

  1. Joint research activities
  2. Personnel exchange for purposes of study and research
  3. Information exchange in fields of interest to academic personnel and students of CCE and UNLV and promote co-operation in developing UG and graduate level programs in emerging areas of engineering and technology
  4. Access and support for approved undergraduate and graduate students to do part of their project work for a period of 1 to 2 months.
